We invite all collegiate institutions to join the AMA Collegiate Community! The value of starting an AMA chapter lies in the activities your local chapter undertakes and the leadership opportunities it provides for undergraduate students to lead those efforts and manage the chapter. You can establish an AMA collegiate chapter at any time throughout the year. Once the completed affiliation petition and temporary chapter plan are submitted, it typically takes about four weeks to process the request and confirm your chapter’s affiliation.
To affiliate with the American Marketing Association as a collegiate chapter, you will need to designate a faculty member on your campus as the faculty advisor and appoint a student (undergraduate) to serve as the chapter president. Both the faculty advisor and student president must be active national AMA members or must become members prior to starting the affiliation process. Note: Collegiate chapters may have co-faculty advisors.
Requirements to Start a Collegiate Chapter:
- Complete the Affiliation Petition and Chapter Constitution. (The petition will include template to get started.)
- Complete the Temporary Chapter Plan. (Chapters have the option to submit a temporary chapter plan or a full chapter plan and if you need inspiration to develop your plan, check you last year’s Top Chapter Plans and Annual Reports.)
- Identify the Chapter’s Faculty Advisor and Chapter President. (If possible, identify all the chapter’s e-board leaders – and all leaders must also be active undergrad national paid AMA student members before they can serve in leadership roles. Grad students are not eligible to join a collegiate chapter.)
- Must have a minimum of 10 Active National Paid AMA Student Members. (Student members must be undergrads and must activate their $29 national AMA membership and it must be renewed each year.)
- Pay a $50 Affiliation Fee. (This fee will be charged as the final step in the affiliation process and you can request an invoice to pay online.)
How to submit your chapter’s Collegiate Chapter Affiliation Petition?
- Email your chapter’s Affiliation Petition and Temporary Chapter Plan to membersupport@ama.org.
- Make sure you include the following information with the submission:
- Add an Email Subject Line – Institution Name: AMA Collegiate Chapter Affiliation Petition
- Make sure the Petition is signed by both Faculty Advisor and Chapter President
- Make sure all of the AMA student members listed on the petition include their emails that are tied to their AMA memberships (AMA will verify all membership and non-members listed on the petition will hold up the affiliation process.)
How does my Collegiate Chapter remain affiliated and in good standings?
Each year, all collegiate chapters must submit three reports (see below) to remain affiliated and in good standing. Failure to submit or having two consecutive years of missing annual affiliated reports will place the chapter “At Risk.” If a chapter fails to report for three or more consecutive years, the chapter will lose its AMA collegiate chapter status and will become inactive. Once a chapter becomes inactive, the institution will have to reapply as a new AMA Collegiate Chapter, and will be required to resubmit the affiliation petition and the $50 affiliation fee.
- Collegiate Chapter Affiliation Annual Reporting and Due Dates:
- Chapter Plan – Due in early-October
- Annual Report – Due in mid-February
- Report Chapter Leaders – Due in early-March (or anytime during the academic year when changes occur)
- All chapter leaders must report and provide roster updates via the Chapter’s Community Admin Portal (note: faculty advisors and chapter presidents will get access to their chapter’s credentials to manage reporting throughout the academic year. If you misplaced your credentials, please reach out to membersupport@ama.org to request credentials).
If you have any additional questions about starting a Collegiate Chapter or you would like to discuss your institution’s interest with the AMA Collegiate Community team, please contact us at membersupport@ama.org.
