- Please note: Faculty Advisors with a chapter participating in the case competition are not eligible to participate as a volunteer case competition judge.
Students: Volunteering as a student judge gives you the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the AMA collegiate community that you can apply to your chapter’s day-to-day operations.

Student Volunteer Judging Opportunities

Student volunteer judging opportunities are available online only. You must be an AMA student member to judge and be considered. Once we receive your submission, it will go through a reviewer process and verification steps with additional volunteer judging instructions to follow after the process is complete. Next, the AMA will select and assign student judges based on need, and will contact you in mid-November/early-December regarding the selection process. (Note: depending on the award(s) or competition(s) you support, you will be asked to complete on an average 3-4 hours of volunteer judging time.)

FALL & SPRING OPPORTUNITIES (ONLINE): Faculty Advisor/Marketing Professional Volunteer Judging Opportunities

These awards and competitions are where the AMA is in need for judges this fall/spring 2022-2023 semesters. The month in which you will be asked to judge is included below to give you an idea of when your time will be needed. Depending on the award/competition, you will be asked complete on an average 3-4 hours of volunteer judging time. Once we receive your submission, it will go through a reviewer process and verification steps with additional volunteer judging instructions to follow after the process is complete. Next, the AMA will select and assign volunteer judges based on need and will contact you in mid-November/early-December (fall semester) or early/mid-January (spring semester) to update you on the selection process. Note: Any faculty advisors that are selected to be a volunteer judge and they complete the judging assignment by submitting their scores (*Annual Report judging), you will qualify to receive a complimentary conference registration to the 2023 AMA International Collegiate Conference in-person event (*further instructions to claim your ICC registration will follow separately). Please Note: dates and times required for judging opportunity are currently being finalized, but the awards and competitions noted below will have an estimated month in which the judging process will take place. On behalf of the AMA and the Collegiate Chapters Council, we would like to thank you for expressing your interest to serve as a volunteer judge for this year’s AMA Collegiate Case Competition. Our goal is to have each judge read no more than 7-10 cases, which should take about half a day to review. Submitted cases will be made available to judges by mid-December and your judging scores would be due back to us by mid-January 2023. AMA is currently finalizing all of the volunteer judging logistics and more details on instruction, judging timelines and submission link to follow. Please take a moment to review and read carefully The Wall Street Journal Confidentiality Agreement. You are required to acknowledge that you understand the guidelines and statement outlined below.

In connection with, and as consideration for, your participation in the Dow Jones & Company, Inc. (“WSJ”) sponsored AMA Collegiate Case Competition (the “Competition”), by participating in the competition, the undersigned (“Author” or “you”) for good and valuable consideration agree that any and all materials relating to presentations, documents, information, ideas, inventions, designs, drawings, concepts, proposals, software, source code, object code, specifications, records, compilations, artistic works, photographs, videos, data, names, trademarks, logos, writings, works of authorship, reports and electronic media diskettes materials and products, created by Author as part of the Competition and any other aspect of the case entry (collectively, “Materials”) shall become the sole and exclusive property of WSJ and its successors, licensees. Accordingly, you hereby assign, transfer, and grant WSJ and its successors, licensees, and assigns all of Author’s worldwide right, title and interest in and to all Materials to use in any manner that it deems fit, including but not limited to all worldwide rights of copyright under the laws of the United States and any renewals, extensions or revivals thereof and the right to secure copyright under the laws of any other country, throughout the world, and the right to sue and to bring any action or proceeding with respect to said Materials. You acknowledge and agree that any and all Materials made or created by you in connection with the Competition, including, without limitation, copyrights in any Materials, are works produced for hire and constitute the sole property of WSJ. You hereby irrevocably relinquish and forever waive for the benefit WSJ any “Moral Rights” (defined as either any right to claim authorship of a work or any right to object to any distortion or other modification of a work, or any similar right existing under the law of any country in the world or under any international agreement) in any work of authorship. In addition, you hereby authorize WSJ to use your name with any and all of these Materials for informational, historical or commercial (including advertising) purposes in any and all forms of media including, without limitation, television, print, internet, etc. As a participant in the Competition, you may receive “Confidential Information” relating to WSJ including, by way of example and without limitation, new products, commercial plans, data, know-how, formulae, processes, designs, sketches, photographs, plans, drawings, specifications, samples, reports, customer, pricing information, studies, findings, inventions, mailing lists, ideas, any terms, conditions or arrangements discussed or the like, whether written, oral, electronic, recorded on tapes or in any other media or format. To the extent practical, Confidential Information shall be disclosed by WSJ, if at all, in documentary or tangible form marked “Proprietary” or “Confidential.” In the case of disclosures in non-documentary form made orally or by visual inspection, WSJ shall have the right, or if requested in writing by you in advance of the disclosure, the obligation to confirm in writing the fact and general nature of each disclosure. In the event that WSJ discloses Confidential Information to you, you agree that you: (1) will hold the Confidential Information in confidence by using the same degree of care, but not less than a reasonable degree of care, as you use or would use to protect your own confidential information; (2) will take such steps as may be reasonably necessary to prevent disclosure of the Confidential Information to others; (3) will not commercially utilize the Confidential Information without having obtained the written consent of WSJ; (4) upon request, will return Confidential Information to WSJ, and (5) shall promptly notify WSJ in the event that you are legally required to disclose any portion of the Confidential Information, so that WSJ may take steps to protect its Confidential Information. The confidentiality and non-use commitments set forth above shall not extend to any portion of Confidential Information which is known to you at the time of your receipt of such information from WSJ; which is or becomes generally available to the public through no fault of yours; which corresponds in substance to that furnished you by This agreement is effective as of July 1, 2022 any third party having a bona fide right to do so and no confidential obligation to WSJ with respect to the information; or which corresponds to that furnished by WSJ to any third party on a non-confidential basis. You further agree that: (1) neither you nor WSJ has any obligation to purchase any service or item from each other; (2) neither you nor WSJ has an obligation to offer for sale products using or incorporating Confidential Information; and (3) you or WSJ do not intend that any agency or partnership relationship is created. AUTHOR SHALL INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD WSJ HARMLESS FROM AND AGAINST ANY EXPENSE OR LIABILITY THAT MAY RESULT BY REASON OF ANY INFRINGEMENT OR CLAIM OF INFRINGEMENT OF ANY PATENT, COPYRIGHT OR TRADEMARK BASED UPON THE MATERIALS SUBMITTED HEREUNDER OR HOLD WSJ USE OR ACCEPTANCE OF THE MATERIALS. The AMA needs judges this spring 2022-2023 semester, and the judging opportunities will take place in person during the 2023 AMA International Collegiate Conference (ICC) in New Orleans, March 30 – April 1, 2023. The day you will be asked to judge is included below to give you an idea of when your time will be needed. Depending on the competition, you will be asked complete 1-2 rounds of volunteer judging time. (More details will follow with instructions). Once we receive your submission, it will go through a review process and verification steps with additional volunteer judging instructions will follow after the process is complete. Next, the AMA will select and assign volunteer judges based on need and will contact you in early-January (spring semester) to update you on the selection process. Any faculty advisors selected to be a volunteer judge will complete the judging assignment by submitting their scores and will also qualify to receive a complimentary conference registration to the 2023 AMA International Collegiate Conference in-person event (*further instructions to claim your ICC registration will follow separately).
